New Year, New You, New Home??

Want to start this year off with a bang? Are you tired of your home looking like the same old same old?

We’re here to give you a few tips on how to spruce up your home without making drastic changes to the structure/ layout of it. The start of a new year is the perfect time to step back and reevaluate the way you’ve put things together. Its also a great time to see if the way you have things organized is really the most efficient, or if there are small changes you could make that would improve the efficiency and flow of your home.

1. Organize the clutter!

A great way to make your home look more open and inviting is to organize all of the clutter and miscellaneous items. For example, your living room can be a very relaxing and cozy space. Typically this is the room you will spend the most time with family and guests. Keep flat surfaces in this space free of clutter. Maybe add a wastebasket if your family spends a lot of time here. Think of the functionality of the current pieces in your living room. End tables and coffee tables that don’t have places to store small items such as coasters or remotes might not be the most functional furniture to have in this space.

2. Give your design a boost!

Sometimes it takes a while to come up with the perfect design/ layout of a room. However, this doesn’t mean that you can’t rearrange décor, or move things around a little. Sometimes as humans, we get in a rut, or get complacent with how things are. Sometimes we don’t realize that some change can be a good thing. Now by no means are we saying to throw out your old family heirlooms and replace them all with new trendy pieces. Changing something as simple as a light fixture can really bring a fresher feel to a space. Or if you’d rather not replace items that you already have. Try rearranging your own items in a new way. Arrange pictures frames on your walls differently. Move furniture around, and see if the room flows a little better. You might be surprised at just how much a little change can make your space more inviting.

3. Freshen up your walls!

Giving your walls or even your cabinets/ furniture a fresh coat of paint can really brighten a space and make it appear to be more open. If you have a room in your home that hasn’t been painted in a while, it might be time to change it up. Sometimes going even a shade darker, or lighter can really change the look of a space. If you are someone that doesn’t like a whole lot of color when it comes to paint. You can still stick to neutral tones and make a space look bright and open. Below is a perfect example of how adding a fresh coat of paint can really change a space. This person chose to paint their cabinets instead of painting the walls. Which really opened up this space and gave is a bright and inviting look.
